For the past 15 years, BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, UK, has been organising annual Sponsored Walks across the country. It’s BAPS’ fun and healthy way of getting everyone involved to help one another. Some of the recent years have been especially successful in supporting various educational and medical charities [see: 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008]. Last year, for example, the Walk helped raise £24,000 for Diabetes UK. This year, BAPS is delighted to be supporting The Anthony Nolan Trust. 10% of all funds raised from the event will be donated to this leading British charity.

This year’s event will be taking place on Sunday 26 April 2009 at BAPS centres across the country (More details to follow).

National Sponsored Family Walk & Fun Run 2009 will be taking place in the following centres across the UK.

BAPS is committed to being not just a participator in our community – but an active and valuable contributor. And that’s why BAPS in the UK has a long record of various charity initiatives. Most recently, this has included raising funds and awareness for:

  • Breast Cancer Care, UK, the country’s leading provider of information, practical assistance and emotional support for anyone affected by breast health concerns. BAPS volunteers helped collect £12,000 during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October 2007.

  • Diabetes UK, the largest organisation in the UK working for people with diabetes. BAPS raised £24,000 for Diabetes UK through the 2008 National Sponsored Walk.

  • The British Heart Foundation, the UK’s leading charity working to prevent premature heart disease through pioneering research, vital prevention activity, and quality care and support. BAPS raised £25,000 for the BHF during the 2007 National Sponsored Walk.

  • The Blue Peter ‘ShoeBiz Appeal’ in support of a worldwide UNICEF campaign aimed at helping needy children in Malawi orphaned through AIDS. Young BAPS volunteers collected over 4,000 pairs of shoes.

  • Children in Need, one of the UK’s favourite charity campaigns, through an inspiring cultural programme staged just by children.
